牙齦卟啉單胞菌學名Porphyromonas gingivalis)隸屬於擬桿菌門,是一種不具運動能力英语Non-motile bacteria革蘭氏陰性、桿狀、厭氧性致病細菌,在血液瓊脂培養基上會形成特徵性的黑色菌落。

這種細菌主要存在於口腔中,並與牙周病的發生有密切關聯[1];另外,它也能出現在上消化道呼吸道大腸中。此外,醫師亦曾在患有細菌性陰道病的女性體內分離到此菌株[2]

慢性牙周病患者常見的膠原蛋白分解,部分是由這個物種所產生的膠原酶所造成。有研究指出,在體外實驗中,牙齦卟啉單胞菌能侵入人類牙齦成纖維細胞,且即使在存在抗生素的環境下仍可存活[3]。此外,它也會大量入侵牙齦上皮細胞,並與這些細胞共同存活一段相當長的時間。感染牙齦卟啉單胞菌的患者通常能檢測到較高濃度的特異性抗體。

牙齦卟啉單胞菌的感染與阿茲海默症[4]類風濕性關節炎之間也存在關聯。此菌擁有胜肽精胺酸去亞胺酶英语peptidyl-arginine deiminase,會參與瓜胺酸化反應[5]。類風濕性關節炎患者本身就較常合併牙周病[6];與此同時,他們血液中針對牙齦卟啉單胞菌的抗體濃度也更高[7]

牙齦卟啉單胞菌的分類可依據其血清型莢膜抗原性,分為不同的K型[8]
