肺炎衣原体[1]是衣原體屬下的一個物種,也是一種細胞內寄生物[2],可感染人类并导致肺炎。[3]肺炎衣原体必须通过感染宿主细胞才能进行繁殖,所以被归类为細胞內寄生物。其全基因组序列已于1999年公布[4]。肺炎衣原体还可感染無尾熊、翡翠樹蚺、美洲鬣蜥屬物種、變色龍、蛙类及海龟等动物。
