Lowrider或Low rider是指一種將車身降低的改裝車，於美國、墨西哥自二戰後的20世紀40年代至50年代興起[3]，後成為奇卡諾文化之一。此類車輛多加裝液壓裝置，透過操作開關調整懸吊，降低或升高車身。
概述

Lowrider為奇卡諾文化之一，一詞在當中除指車輛本身，也包含與駕駛人們參與汽車俱樂部聚會、「兜風」（Cruise）的行為[3][4][5][6]。這類車輛在此文化中被視為藝術品，車體多以各式漆料構成的複雜圖案覆蓋，並以特製的配件進行裝飾。常安裝可調整車高的液壓裝置，和小於原始尺寸且搭配白壁胎的輻條車輪[7][8][9]。現也有於國際發展的趨勢[3][4]。
此在1958年被加州車輛法規定為非法，該規定最終遭批評為不必要且對奇卡諾人及廣泛拉丁美洲文化帶有歧視，終於2023年[8][9]。
起源
[编辑]其確切發源地可能為美國南加州，另有源自墨西哥蒂華納、美國德克薩斯州或新墨西哥州的說法[10]。
將車輛降低的改裝方式興起於40年代中後期，並在50年代的年輕墨西哥裔美國人（奇卡諾人）之間蓬勃發展成為流行，透過諸如改用降低高度的懸吊零件（Lowering block）、改造轉向輪軸（Spindle）、安裝更短彈簧等改裝方式降低車輛行駛高度。
他們推崇「低而慢」（英語：Low and slow，西班牙語：Bajito y suavecito）的行駛風格，與當時主流如Hot rod等其他更注重提升速度的改裝方式截然相反[10]。
可調整懸吊
[编辑]1958年1月1日，加州車輛法規第24008條規定車輛車身不得低於輪圈底部[11]。
隔年1959年，一位改裝技師羅恩·阿吉雷（Ron Aguirre）在此法生效後為了避免在他所處的加州里阿托爾及州內各處不斷受警方取締[8]，在父親協助之下構思研發了一種繞過此法律的方式，即是裝上Pesco生產之航空工業用液壓泵浦與閥門，使車輛得以透過開關調整行駛高度[12]。
加州法律沿革
[编辑]此改裝和聚會、「兜風」的文化在80年代和90年代風靡加州各地，後因多項因素被嚴格禁止[13]。2009年時一度再次流行，並在2019年美國受冠狀病毒影響期間更受關注[14]。
2020年代，反方主張此行為本身無害，規定是基於對墨西哥裔美國人的偏見所致[5]。
2022年，分別在1986年與1988年制定相關法令的聖荷西、沙加緬度因此將其廢除[15][13]。
2022年，加州眾議院更一致通過一項敦促所有仍頒布相關禁令城市（包含內欣諾市）將其廢除的決議[16]。
2023年，加州撤銷了最低車身高度的限制和州內地區對「兜風」直接禁止的效力[9][17]。
日本
[编辑]此文化也傳至日本[18][19]。下平淳一（Junichi Shimodaira）創立的Paradise Road專門進口銷售與改裝包含Lowrider的美製車輛[20]一度吸引製作Hot rod改裝車的知名人物Ed Roth目光[21]。自此文化在2001年於日本出現至今，據統計仍有約200個與此相關的汽車俱樂部依舊活耀[22]。
流行文化
[编辑]1975年，樂團「War」的歌曲《Low Rider》於告示牌百大單曲榜登上第七名[23]，讓此文化受到矚目。
1990年代，此類車輛與西岸嘻哈和G-Funk文化緊密聯繫。Eazy-E、Mack 10、Ice Cube、Dr. Dre、Snoop Dogg、The Game、Warren G、South Central Cartel、Above the Law甚至約翰·希南（於歌曲《Right Now》音樂錄影帶中）等藝人與團體都在所發行作品的音樂錄影帶中加入此類車輛[24]。
