2022年3月，《綜藝》雜誌報導指出安迪·馬希提、芭芭拉·馬希提與傑森·福斯正在為HBO Max開發並擔任執行製作一部以2017年電影《牠》為前傳的電視劇，劇名為《歡迎來到德利鎮》（Welcome to Derry）。該劇設定於1960年代，時間上早於電影情節，並將探討小丑潘尼懷斯的起源故事。[9][10]

本劇於2022年11月獲得製作承諾，福斯與布拉德·凱恩（英語：Brad Kane）被聘為聯合節目統籌。[11]2023年2月，該劇正式獲准拍攝，並報導指出安迪·馬希提將執導多集，包括首集，劇本由福斯撰寫。[12]

根據評論匯總網站爛番茄匯總的121篇評論文章，80%的評論者給予該作正面評價。該網站總結的評論家共識是「儘管偶有散亂的情節削弱其驚悚主題所帶來的恐懼，《牠：歡迎來到德利》仍透過犀利的社會評論、壓迫氛圍與扎實演出，有效深化了小丑潘尼懷斯（英語：Pennywise）的神話。」[35] 在Metacritic上，30位影評人共給予了61分的分數（滿分100分），這部電影獲得了「普遍好評」。[36]
